  • Section your hair and start applying the oil from the roots to the tips.
  • Once all of your hair is covered in oil, wrap it in a damp, hot towel.
  • Let the oil sit for 30-45 minutes, then wash off with shampoo and condition.
  • You can treat your hair with hot oil up to 3 times a week, depending on how dry your hair is.

Safety Precautions:
  • Limit the hot oil treatment to once a week if you have oily hair. Oiling greasy hair will help calm down overzealous sebaceous glands, controlling sebum production.

There are two ways to make your hair smooth. One is chemical smoothing which is permanent treatment that will last for 12 weeks and the other is natural way smoothing which is temporary but efficient, it will cost more damage to your hair.

Now, lets look on to the ways to get natural smoothing.

Wash with cold water

Washing your hair with cold water removes any frizz and makes the hair straight. After that condition your hair, wash with cold water a few times. Dry your hair without crunching it. You can use a straightening or anti-frizz conditioner instead of normal conditioner before wash your hair. The cold water will lock the anti-frizz action of the conditioner and keep your hair smooth.

Proper conditioning

Proper conditioning can do wonders for your hair and make the hair smooth and silky. Deep condition your hair at least once in a week. Letting little conditioner on your hair can make it look smooth. It is completely harmless as long as the conditioner is not in contact with your scalp. You can also use leave-in conditioners and serums, which are very useful to achieve that smooth and frizz-free look. Leave-in conditioners are especially beneficial for people with curly hair.

Use your hair type shampoos

A shampoo cleanses your scalp and also makes your hair smooth and soft. It relieves itch and irritation. It also helps to protect scalp from dandruff and nourishes the hair with softness.

Another way cleanse your hair is by using natural ingredients.
  • Make your own natural shampoo by boiling dried Indian gooseberry (amla), shikakai, and reetha.
  • Let it boil until you get a soapy solution.
  • Use this to wash your hair at least twice a week to get shiny and smooth hair.
Banana hair mask

Banana is rich in vitamins, natural oils, potassium, anti-oxidant properties and carbohydrates that helps to fight free radicals. Using banana in the hair will make the hair nourished and moisturized. It soothes an irritated scalp with regular use. When banana is used with yogurt to it, it keeps the hair moistured.

  • Apply this all over the hair, starting from the tips and work up until the crown.
  • Rinse off after 45 minutes with a shampoo.

Warm oil

Warm oil massage once a week will not only give you healthy and smooth hair and help you to get out from stress. You can use any oils like coconut, olive, almont, jojoba, lavender, castor, sesame and jojoba etc. You can also combine two types of oil and use it for better results.

Ingredients:

2-3 tablespoons of oil, depending on the length of your hair

Procedure to make warm oil:
  • Massage your scalp with the oil and apply it to all of your hair.
  • After massaging your scalp, wrap up your hair with a warm towel which will create an environment that allows maximum penetration of the oil to the scalp.
  • Leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash off the oil with shampoo.

Mayonnaise Mask

Mayonnaise, when used as a hair mask, adds shine and strengthens hair from root to tip. The main ingredients in mayonnaise are egg and oil. The high amount of protein in eggs helps strengthen and thicken hair follicles. Olive and canola oils deeply moisturize hair.

The products that contain sodium laurel sulfate or ammonium laureth sulfate are industrial cleansers and very harsh on your hair, so don't use the products which has these ingredients. And most of the shampoos contain these ingredients. Research shows that these chemicals cause heavy hair fall and thinning of hair. Use shampoos with natural and organic ingredients, which are not harsh on your hair, instead of sulfate shampoos. Shampoos which has natural and organic ingredients lock in the moisture and gives you smooth and soft hair.

Heat issues on hair

Straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers may be instant and best solution to make your hair look smooth. The regular use of these hot styling tools are harmful for the hair. The heat from these tools damages your hair, making it coarse and frizzy and stripping off its natural shine. If you still cannot go without styling, remember to use a heat-protecting spray or serum. It will help reduce the damage from the heat by forming a protective shield around your hair.

Trimming

Trimming help to remove split ends or otherwise it would spread up the hair shaft, cause frizz and dryness. Trim your hair every 4 to 6 weeks. Trimming also makes you to maintain your hair healthy and smooth.

Drying technique

Always dry your hair naturally. Even when you are in a hurry, I suggest you to dry your hair naturally. Use a big toothed comb to brush your hair. If you still want to use blow dryer, I recommend you to use it atleast 15 cm away from your hair and move it constantly.

Combing

Don't comb your hair when it is wet. Wet hair is prone to breakage. A good combing schedule involves detangling your hair before a shower with a wide-toothed wooden comb and then combing it once or twice a day to style and get rid of tangles. Combing your hair too much will cause friction which will make your hair frizz.

Using chemical treatments to smooth your hair, just make sure that the product don’t contain formaldehyde. It can burn the scalp and eyes. Some products claim to have un-activated formaldehyde, which might be activated by the other chemicals in the product. When using regular straighteners, make sure you use keratin straighteners as they do less damage to the hair. I hope the above tips are helpful. Thank you for reading this!!!
